Lindtneria is a genus of fungi belonging to the order Polyporales, recognized as a causal agent of white rot in woody plants. These fungi specialize in the enzymatic breakdown of lignin and cellulose, which are critical structural components of tree tissues. As a result, the infected wood loses its mechanical strength and structural integrity over time.
The host range of Lindtneria primarily includes a variety of hardwood and softwood species. It is frequently observed in orchard environments on older, stressed fruit trees, as well as in woodland areas on decaying timber. The pathogen gains entry to the tree through bark wounds, frost cracks, or improper pruning cuts that leave the heartwood exposed.
Visible symptoms of a Lindtneria infection typically include the development of a fungal crust or sporocarp on the surface of the bark or exposed wood. These structures vary in color from white to cream or yellowish shades. Internally, the wood becomes bleached, fibrous, and fragile, a classic indicator of the white rot decay process caused by these fungi.
Environmental conditions play a crucial role in the development and spread of the disease. High humidity levels, prolonged rainfall, and moderate temperatures provide the necessary moisture for spores to germinate and for mycelium to colonize the host tissues. Trees that are already weakened by abiotic stressors are significantly more susceptible to successful infection.

It is essential to perform precise pruning, ensuring that all cuts are properly sealed with protective wound dressings.
