It does not act as a parasite on crops or wild plants. Instead, it is categorized as a saprotroph, playing a fundamental role in the ecosystem by breaking down organic matter such as leaves, twigs, and dead roots.
The fungus develops primarily through a mycelial network hidden within the top layer of soil or organic litter. Its reproductive structures are small, round, grey-brown fruiting bodies. Because it lacks the parasitic mechanism to penetrate live plant cells, it does not cause symptoms like lesions, wilting, or tissue degradation in cultivated plants. Therefore, it is strictly non-pathogenic.
Agricultural crops do not suffer from the presence of this fungus. In fact, its metabolic activity often contributes to the soil food web, assisting in the nutrient cycling process. Sporulation occurs when the fruiting body matures, releasing a fine, dark dust of spores into the air, which are then dispersed by wind and water currents.

No fungicides are necessary, nor are any cultural practices needed to eradicate it. Instead of seeking to remove the fungus, farmers are encouraged to maintain healthy soil structure and balanced moisture levels, which naturally supports the beneficial microflora of the soil.
