It is strictly a non-pathogenic organism and does not cause damage to crops, vegetables, or ornamental plants, making the classification as a "plant disease" incorrect.
The causative agent for the presence of this organism is a network of mycelium that lives in the soil horizon. Its biological role is restricted to the decomposition of plant debris, such as leaf litter and humus. It acts as a decomposer, assisting in nutrient cycling within the soil profile, which is beneficial for ecosystem health rather than destructive to host plants.
This species is commonly found in grasslands, pastures, and meadows where it finds abundant organic material to feed upon. It does not infect vascular plants, and therefore, it shows no symptoms like wilting, lesions, or rot on agricultural crops. The presence of the fungus is a sign of high soil organic content and biological activity.
The visual signs of the species include the development of fruiting bodies with a 5–12 cm wide cap, which is often light brown with a flaky texture, and a smooth stem with a movable ring. The development of these fruiting bodies is weather-dependent, usually occurring after rainfall, which helps the fungus disperse its spores into the environment.
No protection or control measures are required for this fungus in an agricultural context. It is not considered a pest or a disease vector. If the mushroom's presence is undesirable in a managed landscape or lawn, cultural practices such as improving soil drainage and reducing surface moisture are sufficient to manage its growth naturally without the need for chemical intervention.
