Medeolariales is an order of fungi belonging to the class Leotiomycetes within the phylum Ascomycota. In agronomy, members of this order are identified as specialized pathogens that can impact plant health through fungal infection. These fungi often form unique structures on the host surface, indicating their presence during the later stages of colonization.

The disease is caused by microscopic fungal agents that penetrate the plant's epidermis or stoma to establish an infection. Once inside, the fungus develops mycelium that absorbs nutrients from the plant's cells, leading to a general decline in the host's vitality. The type of infection is classified as a mycosis, which can manifest either locally or systemically depending on the environmental stress on the plant.

The primary hosts of Medeolariales are typically species within the Liliaceae family. The pathogen is often highly host-specific, primarily targeting foliage and stems. Poor site management, such as failing to remove infected organic debris, significantly increases the likelihood of an outbreak in subsequent seasons.
