The order Melanosporales represents a diverse group of fungi that are primarily recognized for their specific morphology and role in decaying organic matter. While many species are saprotrophic, certain representatives act as opportunistic pathogens that can negatively impact plant vitality when natural defense mechanisms are compromised by environmental stress or poor field management.

The disease is caused by fungal spores and mycelia that penetrate plant tissues, particularly targeting root systems and seeds. As opportunistic pathogens, these fungi thrive in environments characterized by high humidity and inadequate ventilation.
