This pathogen thrives on the surfaces of living plants, establishing dense dark colonies. It is classified as an obligate biotroph, meaning it relies on organic substances secreted by the host plant or associated insects to survive.
The primary hosts for this fungus are members of the Lamiaceae family, particularly plants belonging to the genus Hyptis. While it is mostly found in tropical and subtropical climates, the fungus can colonize various wild and occasionally cultivated species, particularly in environments where plant hygiene is neglected and host health is compromised.
