Sweet potato mild mottle (SPMMV) is a destructive viral disease that specifically impacts sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) production. The pathogen belongs to the Ipomovirus genus and is responsible for significant yield losses, particularly in regions with high whitefly activity.

The primary host for this virus is the sweet potato. Once infected, the virus spreads systemically throughout the plant's vascular tissue, disrupting essential metabolic processes that are crucial for the development of healthy, high-quality storage roots.

Symptoms are characterized by chlorotic mottle, mosaic patterns on the leaves, and occasional leaf distortion. Infected plants exhibit stunted growth, reduced canopy density, and a diminished root system, which ultimately leads to smaller and malformed tubers.
