Mixiaceae is a family of basidiomycete fungi recognized in phytopathology as plant pathogens. These microorganisms are characterized by a highly specialized life cycle that impacts the normal physiological development of various woody plant species, primarily causing structural abnormalities in host tissues.
The host range of these pathogens is relatively specific, with willows (Salix species) being the most frequently reported victims. The pathogen colonizes the intercellular spaces of leaves and succulent stems, leading to severe disruption of vascular functions and metabolic pathways within the plant structure.
