The organism does not produce any toxins or enzymes that would cause necrotic lesions, wilting, or tissue decay in crops. There are no symptoms of infection to be found on plants because black morel does not invade living plant tissues. The appearance of its fruiting bodies (the mushrooms) indicates favorable soil conditions, specifically high levels of organic matter and good aeration. Its presence is generally considered an indicator of a rich, healthy, and biologically active soil environment.

Environmental requirements for Morchella conica include cool, moist springs and specific soil substrates, such as sites where debris has accumulated or forests. The fungus spreads through the dispersal of spores, which is a natural biological process completely unrelated to the transmission of plant viruses, bacteria, or fungal diseases that affect farming productivity.

As this species is not a pest or a disease, there are no control or protective measures required against it in farming. Farmers should not attempt to eradicate it, as it does not compete with crops for resources in a harmful manner. Instead, the presence of such fungi in an agro-ecosystem is a positive sign of nutrient cycling and high soil quality.
