Navicula seminulum is a species of diatom algae often encountered in commercial hydroponic facilities and specialized agricultural irrigation systems. While not a classical plant parasite, it functions as a nuisance organism that disrupts the physiological health of crops.

The organism is a single-celled diatom characterized by a siliceous cell wall. It thrives in aquatic environments where nutrient concentrations are high, specifically targeting the interface between moisture-rich substrates and artificial light sources provided for crop growth.

Crops grown in hydroponic systems, such as lettuce, herbs, and tomatoes, are primarily affected. The algae colonize root surfaces, creating a physical barrier that restricts oxygen exchange and nutrient uptake, leading to diminished growth and potential susceptibility to secondary fungal infections.
