Description

Necator is a collective term for a pathological condition in plants caused by fungal microorganisms of the genus Necator. In agronomic practice, this pathogen is classified as an agent of necrotic processes that primarily affects the tissues of stems and leaves. The disease belongs to the group of fungal infections capable of rapid spread when agrotechnical standards are violated.

This pathogen affects a wide range of crops, including cereals, certain vegetable species, and ornamental perennials. It poses a particular danger to plants with high planting density, where a microclimate conducive to spore germination is created. Infection occurs primarily through mechanical injuries or natural stomata.

Symptoms of the infection manifest as dark, gradually expanding necrotic spots of irregular shape. As the disease progresses, the tissue in the affected areas dies, acquiring a dry, brittle structure.

  • Appearance of brown spots on stems;
  • Wilting and yellowing of leaf blades;
  • Formation of a spore layer in areas of necrosis;
  • Premature leaf drop.

A key condition for the development and active spread of the infection is high air humidity (above 75%) and a moderately warm temperature (18–24°C). Stagnant air in dense plantings and the presence of droplet moisture on the surface of plant organs significantly accelerate the incubation period of the fungus, contributing to rapid secondary infection of neighboring plants.

The damage caused by Necator consists of a sharp decrease in photosynthetic activity and a disruption of metabolic processes, which inevitably leads to a loss of marketability and reduced yields. For prevention, it is necessary to practice crop rotation, conduct timely disinfection of tools, and avoid soil waterlogging. In case of infestation, the use of systemic fungicides is recommended, along with the removal and disposal of infected plant debris.
