Neoconiothyrium blight is a fungal plant disease caused by various species within the Neoconiothyrium genus. This pathogen is known for its ability to attack a wide range of horticultural and agricultural crops, often leading to significant damage to stems, leaves, and fruits by disrupting normal plant vascular functions.
The causal agent spreads primarily through the production of pycnidia—specialized structures that release conidia. These spores are easily disseminated by wind, rain splashes, and sometimes insect vectors, allowing the fungus to quickly colonize susceptible plant tissues, especially when the plant's defense barriers have been breached.
Symptoms of the infection typically appear as brown or dark necrotic lesions that grow over time.
