Neodasyscypha is a genus of ascomycete fungi that are primarily recognized for their role in the decomposition of woody tissues, specifically targeting coniferous tree species. In the context of forestry and plant pathology, these fungi are often categorized as facultative parasites that exploit compromised host defenses to colonize branches and bark.

The primary hosts for Neodasyscypha include various conifers, such as spruce, pine, and fir trees. The pathogen typically gains entry into the host plant through wounds caused by insects, frost cracks, or mechanical damage. Once established, the mycelium spreads within the bark, interfering with the normal physiological functions of the affected branches.

The diagnostic signs of a Neodasyscypha infection are the presence of small, characteristic cup-shaped fruit bodies (apothecia) on the surface of the bark, needles, or small twigs. These structures are often brightly colored, ranging from yellow to orange. Infected areas typically exhibit necrotic lesions, leading to browning, tissue death, and the eventual dieback of distal parts of the tree.
