Neoerysiphe is a genus of ascomycete fungi that causes powdery mildew disease on a wide range of dicotyledonous plants. Unlike other genera of the Erysiphaceae family, Neoerysiphe species are recognized by their distinct morphological characteristics, specifically regarding their conidial production and the structure of their chasmothecia, which are crucial for the long-term survival of the fungus.
This pathogen primarily targets families such as Lamiaceae and Asteraceae. Many essential oil crops, medicinal plants, and ornamental species are susceptible to these fungi. The disease is frequently observed in greenhouse environments, home gardens, and commercial agricultural fields, where it can spread rapidly if the conditions are favorable for fungal growth.
The primary symptom of infection is the emergence of white, mycelial patches on the surface of leaves, stems, and flower buds.
