Neotestudina is a genus of fungi belonging to the Ascomycota division, known for causing various leaf spot diseases in plants. The pathogen functions by colonizing the leaf tissue, leading to localized cell death and the formation of characteristic necrotic lesions that compromise the photosynthetic ability of the plant.
This disease primarily affects a variety of tropical, ornamental, and certain leguminous plants. In agricultural settings, it can lead to significant aesthetic and physiological damage, particularly in nurseries where plant density is high, facilitating the rapid transfer of fungal spores between individuals.
The clinical symptoms of Neotestudina infection start as small chlorotic spots that eventually turn dark brown or black as the tissue dies.
