Nigrograna thymi is a fungal pathogen responsible for specific blight symptoms in thyme species. As an ascomycete fungus, it primarily targets the aerial parts of the host plant, disrupting cellular structure and compromising the health of the entire plant. Understanding its life cycle is essential for effective management in herb cultivation.
The primary hosts for this pathogen are various species and cultivars of thyme (Thymus). While often found in industrial thyme plantations, it also affects thyme in ornamental gardens and botanical collections. The disease can cause significant economic losses by reducing both the biomass yield and the quality of essential oils extracted from the plants.
