Powdery mildew, caused by the fungus Oidium erysiphoides, is a widespread and devastating plant disease that affects a vast array of agricultural, horticultural, and ornamental species. The pathogen functions as an obligate parasite, extracting nutrients directly from the host cells, which leads to the weakening and eventual physiological decline of the plant.
This fungus exhibits a broad host range, attacking various crops including cucurbits, tomatoes, strawberries, grapes, and many flowering plants.
