Okra mottle is a significant viral disease caused by the Okra mottle virus (OMoV), which is classified under the genus Begomovirus. This pathogen is known for its high transmission efficiency, leading to widespread infection in susceptible hosts, particularly in regions with warm and humid climates.

The primary host for this virus is okra (Abelmoschus esculentus), but the virus also poses a threat to other crops, including soybeans (Glycine max). Its ability to infect multiple plant species makes it a persistent challenge in agricultural systems where different crops are rotated or intercropped.

Key symptoms of the disease include mosaic-like patterns on leaves, interveinal chlorosis, and crinkling. Affected plants usually exhibit stunted growth, reduced leaf size, and a significant decrease in flowering and pod formation, which directly impacts the overall harvest quantity.
