Description
Ovatosporosis is an infectious fungal disease caused by the pathogen Ovatospora brasiliensis. This microorganism belongs to a group of fungus-like organisms specializing in the infection of plant vegetative organs. In intensive agriculture, this species poses a threat to the biodiversity and yield of specific botanical families.
The primary hosts for Ovatospora brasiliensis are plants of the Marantaceae family, particularly those cultivated in tropical and subtropical climates. The infection causes significant damage to the aerial parts of the plants, disrupting photosynthesis and transpiration processes, which ultimately leads to the weakening and death of the entire plant.
Symptoms of the disease manifest as the formation of characteristic chlorotic spots on leaf blades, which eventually become necrotic.
- Development of oval spots with a dark border.
- Yellowing of tissues around the affected areas.
- Deformation of young leaves.
- Development of sporulation appearing as a whitish or gray coating.
The development and active spread of the pathogen are directly dependent on the level of air humidity and ambient temperature. Ovatospora brasiliensis is most aggressive under conditions of stagnant air, poor ventilation, and temperatures ranging from 20 to 28 degrees Celsius. Water droplets on the leaf surface serve as an ideal environment for fungal spore germination.
Control measures are based on strict adherence to agrotechnical standards, such as controlling humidity in greenhouses and promptly removing infected plant debris. In cases of significant infection, the use of systemic fungicides targeting early mycelial growth is considered effective. Prevention includes sanitizing planting material and creating conditions that prevent moisture condensation.
