It is a specialized biological agent that targets insects rather than plants, acting as a crucial regulator of insect population density within various agroecosystems.

The host range of this fungus primarily includes lepidopteran larvae, specifically those that are detrimental to crops, such as cutworms and various armyworms. The fungus infects the host by adhering to its cuticle, after which it penetrates the body cavity and consumes the host's internal tissues, leading to inevitable mortality.
