Papulaspora is a genus of imperfect fungi that acts as a plant pathogen causing various decay and damping-off diseases. The fungus is characterized by the production of specialized, bulbil-like structures known as bulbils, which serve as overwintering bodies and enable the pathogen to persist in the soil for extended periods.

This pathogen has a wide host range, frequently affecting vegetable crops, ornamental plants, and tree seedlings. It is particularly problematic in nursery settings, greenhouses, and other controlled environments where the combination of organic substrates and high humidity provides an ideal habitat for its development.

The primary symptoms of infection include the appearance of small, dark, granular structures on roots, stems, or leaf tissue. As the fungus colonizes the plant, it leads to tissue necrosis, wilting, and decay.
