It acts as a primary agent of leaf spot disease, specifically targeting members of the fern family, most notably the Adiantum genus. This disease is a significant concern in nursery production and indoor plant maintenance where specialized humidity-loving plants are cultivated.
The primary symptom of the disease is the appearance of characteristic necrotic lesions on the fronds. These spots are initially small, progressing to irregularly shaped brown or dark-colored blotches, often ringed by a chlorotic halo. As the pathogen matures, it produces pycnidia—minute, spore-bearing structures—that appear as tiny black dots within the affected tissues, facilitating the spread of the fungus.
Environmental conditions are the primary drivers of Paraboeremia adianticola development. The disease thrives in high-humidity environments where temperatures range between 20°C and 25°C. Poor air circulation and the presence of standing water on leaf surfaces create the perfect climate for spore germination and colonization of host tissues.
