Paraleptosphaeria dryadis is a specialized fungal pathogen belonging to the class Dothideomycetes that specifically infects plants of the genus Dryas. This pathogen causes necrotic lesions on the leaves, leading to premature tissue death. It is predominantly found in arctic and alpine environments, where it serves as a natural component of the local mycobiota interacting with cushion plants.

The primary host for this fungus is Dryas octopetala. The pathogen targets the foliage, where it establishes its mycelium, eventually disrupting the plant's photosynthetic capacity. Because Dryas species are crucial ecosystem engineers in tundra habitats, the presence and intensity of this disease can reflect changes in the micro-environment of these plant communities.

Symptoms of the infection typically appear as irregular dark brown or black spots on the leaf surface. As the fungus develops, these lesions may expand and coalesce, significantly damaging the leaf integrity.
