The genus Pasteurella consists of bacteria primarily associated with infections in animals, including humans. In botanical and agronomical sciences, there is no documented evidence of Pasteurella species acting as primary plant pathogens. References to «Pasteurellosis» in crops are generally considered misidentifications of other serious bacterial diseases that exhibit similar signs of decay and tissue destruction.
When plants show symptoms resembling bacterial infections, they are usually caused by phytopathogenic bacteria such as Erwinia or Xanthomonas. These pathogens use sophisticated mechanisms to weaken plant cell walls, leading to soft rot, tissue maceration, and systemic collapse. Proper laboratory identification is critical to differentiate between common bacterial blights and potential misdiagnoses.
Symptoms of severe bacterial diseases often include localized water-soaked lesions that rapidly expand and turn necrotic. As the infection progresses, plant tissue may lose its structural integrity, resulting in wilting, yellowing, and the eventual death of affected plant organs. In many cases, a foul-smelling bacterial ooze appears on the surface of stems or leaves, especially during high humidity.
Environmental factors play a crucial role in the development of bacterial infections. High relative humidity and warm temperatures significantly accelerate the multiplication of pathogenic bacteria. The disease spreads through water splash, wind, contaminated tools, and insect vectors that transfer the bacteria from one plant to another. Improperly managed irrigation systems often exacerbate the spread within closed environments like greenhouses.
Management and prevention focus on eliminating conditions conducive to bacterial survival:

- Sanitizing all gardening and farm tools after every use.
- Choosing resistant cultivars for fields with a history of bacterial issues.
