In modern agricultural contexts, specifically in high-tech hydroponics or greenhouse irrigation utilizing saline or recirculated water, Pavlovophyceae can be found as part of the microbial community. They do not infect plant tissues, roots, or leaves, nor do they cause metabolic diseases in plants.
The economic impact of these algae is restricted to the physical obstruction of irrigation equipment. Proliferation within tubes, pipes, and drip emitters can cause clogs, which subsequently disrupt the uniform distribution of water and nutrients, leading to growth inconsistencies in crops.
