Peniculida is an order of ciliated protozoa widely distributed in aquatic and soil environments. It is essential to clarify that these organisms are not plant pathogens and do not cause any diseases in agricultural crops. They are harmless, free-living microorganisms that inhabit moist soils and organic substrates.
Biologically, Peniculida are filter-feeders that primarily consume bacteria and organic particles. By regulating bacterial populations and participating in the breakdown of organic matter, they facilitate nutrient cycling within the soil profile. This process helps release essential nutrients, making them available for plant uptake through the root system.

The development of these ciliates is strictly dependent on moisture availability and the presence of organic food sources. They do not require any specific phytosanitary measures or chemical control.
