As members of the order Pucciniales, these fungi invade host tissues, utilizing the plant's nutrients to support their life cycle. This parasitic relationship leads to systemic stress in the host, manifesting as structural and functional failures in plant tissues.

The host range of Peridiopsora typically includes specific botanical groups, often found in regions with high biodiversity or specific microclimates. Unlike common agricultural rusts like Puccinia graminis, Peridiopsora is often niche-specific, requiring precise environmental conditions to complete its infection cycle and produce spores effectively.
