The fungus predominantly affects grapevines (Vitis vinifera). The infection typically occurs through wounds caused by pruning, mechanical harvesting, or weather damage, which serve as entry points for the fungal spores into the vascular xylem tissue of the plant.
Symptoms of the infection include the internal browning or black streaking of the woody tissues, which can lead to vine dieback. Affected vines often show stunted growth, chlorotic leaves, and poor fruit development.
