As an ascomycete fungus, it thrives in tropical environments and can significantly impact the health of foliage by inducing necrosis and subsequent leaf senescence, which may lead to reduced photosynthetic capacity.
The primary host for this fungus is the mango tree, although it may demonstrate affinities for related plant species under specific ecological conditions. The pathogen targets the vegetative organs of the host, particularly the leaves. Infection typically begins during the active growth phases of the tree, making young, tender foliage particularly susceptible to colonization by the fungal mycelium.
Clinical signs of the infection include the appearance of distinct lesions on the leaf blades. Initially, these spots are small and often dark brown or black in color.
