Its presence is most noted in ecosystems where soil health and moisture levels fluctuate significantly.

The host range of this fungus includes various forage grasses and xerophytic plants involved in desert reclamation and stabilization projects. The pathogen enters the plant through micro-lesions in the root tissue or base, often exacerbated by mechanical damage or soil disturbance.
