These pathogens are classified as wood-decay fungi that thrive in environments with high moisture levels and available organic substrate, affecting plant tissues throughout their growth cycle.

The fungus invades plant tissues through bark wounds or the root system, triggering an enzymatic degradation of lignin and cellulose.
