Phoma astragalina is a pathogenic fungus responsible for Phoma blight, a fungal disease that primarily affects plants belonging to the genus Astragalus. As a specialized pathogen, it exploits the botanical characteristics of its host, leading to significant physiological stress in infected plants.

The disease targets various parts of the host plant, including stems, leaves, and occasionally seed pods. The primary host range is restricted to species of Astragalus, which makes this pathogen a critical consideration for botanical gardens, research stations, and crops cultivated for pharmaceutical or ornamental purposes.

Symptoms of the infection typically appear as distinct necrotic spots. These spots initially look like small, discolored areas but rapidly expand into darker, brown or grayish lesions.
