This disease significantly impacts plant vitality by attacking the stems and branches, leading to weakened plants and reduced overall productivity of the asparagus field.

The disease exclusively targets the genus Asparagus, most notably Asparagus officinalis. It is a major concern for farmers as it affects both young ferns and mature plants. The systemic nature of the infection within the plant canopy can lead to rapid decline during the peak growing season, resulting in significant yield losses.

Typical symptoms involve the development of gray-brown, elongated lesions on the stems. Within these lesions, tiny black fruiting bodies known as pycnidia develop, which serve as the primary source of secondary inoculum. As the infection progresses, the foliage yellows, and the stem tissue becomes brittle and prone to breakage under environmental stress.
