Phomopsis elaeidis is a fungal pathogen responsible for leaf spot disease in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis). As a specialized pathogen, it poses a recurring challenge for oil palm cultivation, often manifesting as necrotic lesions that reduce the efficiency of the palm's photosynthetic apparatus.
The primary host for this fungus is the oil palm. The disease typically targets the leaf blades, but it can also affect the petioles and rachis if conditions allow. In severe cases, the infection impairs the canopy structure, which is crucial for the optimal fruit development and overall plantation yield.
