The primary symptom of the infection is the development of raised, shiny, black, crust-like structures known as stromata on the leaves. These spots can be scattered across the leaf blade or sometimes coalesce, leading to necrotic areas that disrupt the normal leaf surface and health of the tree.
Disease development is heavily influenced by environmental conditions, particularly high humidity and rainfall. The fungal spores are typically disseminated by water splash and wind, allowing the pathogen to spread efficiently from infected fallen debris to healthy foliage during the wet season.
