The disease involves the infection of the leaf parenchyma, where the pathogen disrupts photosynthesis and metabolic pathways. This process results in typical symptoms of tissue degradation, which can severely impact the vigor of the host plant if the infection progresses unchecked throughout the growing season.
Common hosts for Phyllosiphonales-related diseases include various herbaceous perennials that thrive in humid, shaded environments.
