The primary host for this pathogen is Colocasia esculenta (taro). While it primarily affects the leaves, severe infections can indirectly impact root development by reducing the plant's metabolic capacity, which eventually leads to smaller tubers and reduced commercial yield for farmers.

The disease is characterized by the appearance of small, water-soaked spots on the leaves, which gradually develop into tan or brown necrotic lesions.
