The primary host for this pathogen is the Podocarpus genus, a popular evergreen ornamental shrub or tree. While usually resistant, these plants become highly susceptible when growing conditions are suboptimal, particularly in environments with stagnant air or excessive overhead moisture.
Clinical signs of infection include the appearance of small, irregular brown spots on the needles. As the disease advances, these spots expand, often developing a darker margin and becoming brittle. Within these necrotic zones, the pathogen produces small, dark pycnidia, which serve as the primary source of secondary inoculum during the growing season.
