This pathogen targets the root systems and the root collars of its hosts. While research continues into its full host range, it is primarily identified as a threat to forest tree species and nursery stock, where it causes progressive decline and potential mortality in infected plantations.
Visible symptoms often start with a decline in plant vigor, such as leaf yellowing, thinning canopy, and stunted growth. Below ground, the fine root system typically suffers from severe rot, while the root collar may show dark, necrotic lesions. These disruptions to the vascular system prevent water and nutrient uptake, leading to the eventual death of the plant.
The development of the disease is heavily dependent on soil moisture levels. High humidity or waterlogged soil conditions facilitate the production and motility of zoospores, which travel through soil water to infect new roots. The pathogen remains dormant in the soil during unfavorable conditions, making long-term survival a key challenge in management.

This involves ensuring high-quality drainage in nursery areas, strictly enforcing hygiene protocols for tools and footwear to prevent soil movement, and using pathogen-free planting media.
