Phytophthora pini is a soil-borne oomycete pathogen responsible for root rot diseases in various pine species. As a devastating plant pathogen, it primarily targets the root system and the root collar, leading to the decay of vascular tissues and eventual death of the affected conifer.

This disease is particularly prevalent in nurseries where dense plantings and controlled environments can facilitate the rapid spread of the pathogen. While pine trees are the primary host, the pathogen's ability to persist in soil for extended periods makes it a persistent challenge for forest management and ornamental tree growers.
