Description
The disease known as Phytophthora root rot is caused by the oomycete pathogen Phytophthora sojae. It is a soil-borne pathogen that specifically targets soybean plants, significantly impacting production in many regions globally.
Symptoms of the infection vary depending on the growth stage and cultivar resistance. Common signs include pre-emergence damping-off, stunted development, and yellowing of the foliage. In older plants, brown stem lesions spreading from the roots are a hallmark symptom, often leading to rapid wilting and plant death.
