Plectosphaerella is a genus of fungi that acts as a significant plant pathogen, with species like Plectosphaerella cucumerina being the most commonly associated with agricultural crop damage. This fungus is recognized as a causative agent of root rot and stem lesions in various vegetable species.

It predominantly targets vegetable crops, including cucumbers, tomatoes, and other solanaceous plants grown in both greenhouse conditions and open fields. The pathogen is a persistent soil-borne organism, capable of overwintering in plant debris and soil, posing a recurring threat to crop health across growing seasons.
