Plenodomus confertus is a fungal pathogen responsible for causing leaf spot diseases in various plant species. As an ascomycete fungus, it relies on its ability to colonize host tissues, gradually destroying plant cells and extracting nutrients, which eventually leads to the visible necrotic symptoms observed by farmers.
The host range of this pathogen primarily includes members of the Asteraceae family and several other broadleaf crops. The fungus survives unfavorable conditions by forming resistant structures within crop residues left on the soil surface, ensuring its presence in the field even after the harvest of the previous crop.
