Pleuroflammula represents a genus of fungi belonging to the Strophariaceae family, known for their association with wood decomposition. In agricultural and forestry practice, they are identified as saprotrophic fungi that can occasionally behave as secondary pathogens, colonizing weakened woody plants and contributing to wood rot processes.
This genus typically affects a variety of deciduous tree species. While primarily found on decaying stumps and fallen logs, they are capable of attacking living trees that have sustained damage to their bark or stem tissues. Such injuries provide the necessary access point for the fungal mycelium to penetrate deeper into the tree's internal vascular system.
