Pluripassalora

Pluripassalora is a fungal disease that affects various plant species, caused by the pathogenic fungus of the genus Pluripassalora. This pathogen is known for its ability to infect leaves and stems, significantly impacting the aesthetic and physiological health of host plants.

The host range of this disease includes a variety of ornamental plants and certain sensitive agricultural crops. The fungus typically targets younger or weakened tissues, where the protective cuticle is less developed or damaged by environmental stressors.

Symptoms are identified by the appearance of distinct leaf spots. These spots often develop necrotic centers and may be surrounded by a chlorotic halo. As the infection progresses, premature leaf drop and stunted growth are common, which severely reduces the photosynthetic surface of the plant.

The development of the disease is highly dependent on environmental conditions, specifically high humidity and moderate temperatures. The fungus propagates through conidia, which are efficiently dispersed by splashing water, wind currents, and mechanical contact with contaminated tools.

Effective management strategies include cultural practices such as pruning infected parts, improving air circulation within crop canopies, and avoiding overhead irrigation. Furthermore, the use of chemical fungicides is recommended for severe outbreaks to inhibit the further spread of fungal spores.
