Podospora fimiseda is an ascomycetous fungus often identified as a competitive mould within the mushroom cultivation industry. While it is naturally occurring in decaying organic matter, its presence in a controlled environment represents a significant failure in the sanitation or sterilization processes.

The pathogen is known for its ability to rapidly colonize organic substrates. By utilizing cellulose and other complex carbohydrates, it successfully outcompetes the commercial mushroom mycelium, leading to decreased yields and complete loss of infected substrates in severe cases.
