This organism is an obligate parasite that lives primarily in the soil substrate and infests the root systems of a wide range of agricultural crops, causing significant suppression of plant growth and development.

The causative agent belongs to the nematode phylum. The pathogen's life cycle is inextricably linked to plant roots, from which the nematode extracts nutrients, disrupting normal sap flow and metabolic processes within the host tissues. This leads to the development of specific pathological changes, particularly in the early stages of plant growth.

Affected crops include various vegetables, cereals, and technical crops. Cultures in greenhouse conditions and fields with monocultural farming systems are particularly sensitive to the impact of Prathoda longissima, as the parasite population can quickly accumulate in the soil layer.

For the development and spread of this pathogen, conditions such as high soil moisture and optimal temperature regimes are critical. Nematodes are spread via contaminated planting material, agricultural tools, soil movement, or irrigation water. Protection and prevention measures include crop rotation, the use of healthy virus-free planting material, thermal soil disinfection, as well as the application of specific biological preparations and the use of antagonists in the soil microflora to suppress the pest population.
