Pseudocercospora leaf spot is a fungal disease caused by various species of the Pseudocercospora genus. This group of pathogens is known for infecting a wide array of crops, including subtropical trees, ornamental plants, and various field crops, acting as a significant phytopathological challenge for growers worldwide.
The primary symptoms of this infection are leaf spots that vary in appearance depending on the host plant. They typically start as small chlorotic lesions that expand and darken to become brown, grey, or black. In many cases, a distinct halo appears around the lesion, and under humid conditions, the pathogen produces characteristic conidia, visible as a fine mold on the leaf surface.
The development and spread of the pathogen are heavily dependent on environmental conditions. High humidity, frequent rainfall, and warm temperatures create an ideal microclimate for fungal proliferation.
