Pseudochattonella is a genus of marine microalgae belonging to the class Dictyochophyceae, recognized primarily for its role in harmful algal blooms (HABs). While not a plant disease in the terrestrial sense, it acts as a significant biological hazard that negatively affects aquaculture and marine ecosystems, leading to substantial economic losses in the fish farming industry.

The causative factor is the rapid proliferation of Pseudochattonella cells, which release potent ichthyotoxins. These toxins target the respiratory systems of fish, causing severe gill tissue damage and respiratory failure. The biological mechanism involves both the physical clogging of gill filaments and the chemical action of neurotoxins produced during bloom events.
