This pathogen is categorized as a coelomycete, characterized by the development of pycnidia, which are asexual fruiting bodies where the fungus produces spores for rapid dissemination throughout the host plant during favorable conditions.
This pathogen typically affects woody perennials, ornamental shrubs, and occasionally various agricultural crops. By invading the plant tissues, the fungus disrupts nutrient transport and photosynthesis, which can lead to significant physiological stress and stunted development of the affected individual plants or nursery stocks.
